Summary
The Youth and Family Counsellor – Conflict Resolution assists youth and their parents/guardians to resolve conflicts and build healthy family relationships. The program employs short term mediation, individual/family counselling, and psycho-education to promote and develop healthy relationships and problem solving in the family. A primary focus is preventing family breakdowns and reuniting families when the youth is out of the home.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
To be successful in the position the Youth and Family Counsellor – Conflict Resolution must be able to consistently perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties maybe assigned.
Works with youth, their parent/guardian, and others when appropriate, to assess suitability for the service, assess needs and resources, and develop a plan/strategy for addressing interpersonal conflicts, family issues and related concerns.
Engages youth and families in conflict resolution and problem solving.
Engages youth and families in skill building and education on topics that may include social and life skills, self-control, self-awareness, self-care, parenting skills, transition to independence, developmental norms, health, and substance use.
Provides information/education, skill building, counselling, and support for parents in the area of parenting approaches and skills.
Takes responsibility for case management activities including: documentation and information management, liaison with the referral source and other agencies, involving family members and others when appropriate, in case planning and attending integrated case meetings.
Refers youth and families to other community services and resources as necessary. Ensures a connection is made to the new service. Follows up on and supports referrals when necessary.
Collects data for reporting on program outcomes and statistics.
Provides crisis intervention and support for youth and their families when required.
Plans, co-ordinates, leads/co-leads, and evaluates groups for youth and/or caregivers.
Represents the agency in the community when required. Maintains healthy relationships with other organizations and the community at large.
Offers support to and consults with co-workers as part of a team providing integrated, holistic services to youth and families.
Completes reports and attends meetings as required by The John Howard Society of North Island and the Ministry for Children and Families.

Education and Experience
A bachelor’s degree in social work or another human services field from an accredited institution.

As a Family Law Advocate, you will provide legal information, personal support, and assistance with navigating family law matters for low-income individuals in the Campbell River and North Island region. This role is ideal for someone who is compassionate, detail-oriented, and committed to empowering others through education and support.

While the Family Law Advocate will not represent clients in court, you will assist clients with court preparation, document drafting, and connecting them to the necessary resources. You will also provide assistance with accessing Legal Aid and support services in a wide range of family law matters.

Key Responsibilities:
• Legal Information & Education:
Provide accessible, understandable information on family law matters, including the Family Law Act; Divorce Act; Child, Family and Community Services Act; and more.
• Court Support & Documentation:
Assist clients with the preparation of court forms and documents, provide guidance on the court process, and offer personal support during legal proceedings. Attend court with clients as needed to provide additional follow-up supports and organization.
• Personal Support:
Offer empathetic, personalized support to clients as they navigate challenging family law issues. Recognize the sensitive nature of family matters and ensure clients feel heard, validated, and supported.
• Referrals & Resource Access:
Connect clients with community resources such as counselling services, Indigenous cultural supports, parenting programs, and more. Assist with applications for other legal support services.

o Guardianship and parenting time

o Desk order divorce
o Separation agreements

Help clients access relevant legal services and provide supported dispute resolution where necessary. For cases outside of the family law scope, refer clients to appropriate resources.
• Public Legal Education:
Deliver public presentations, and written materials on family law topics. Engage with the community to increase awareness and understanding of legal rights and processes.
Qualifications & Experience
• Education:
A post-secondary degree or diploma in a relevant field, such as social work, legal studies, or human services, is preferred.
A mandatory Law Foundation of BC training program must be attended and successfully completed.
• Experience:
Previous experience in family law, social services, or community-based advocacy is an asset. Experience working with low-income populations and individuals facing significant life challenges is highly valued.

The Role…
This role is part of a province-wide initiative that uses innovative, evidence-based approaches to delivering
integrated youth services in BC. The Youth Employment Specialist position reports to Regional Manager,
Client Services and provides comprehensive employment services through Foundry Work and Education
program to youth aged 15 – 24 years who are accessing services at Foundry Port Hardy (North Island
Crisis and Counselling) and/or through NIEFS WorkBC Employment Services. The role includes engaging
youth in determining employment and education needs, service planning, facilitation, supported referrals,
ongoing employment counselling and support, job development, job coaching and job maintenance that
improves employability and supports ongoing employment and/or education outcomes. This position will
support youth in their journey towards sustained employment or education through various service delivery
channels including in-person, outreach and virtual. Utilizing a client-centered approach the individual will
work alongside clients to identify strengths, skills and abilities and address barriers to the achievement of
employment, education and community connection goals. This position is also responsible for taking
personal initiative for staying up to date and following both Foundry and NIEFS policies to ensure client
confidentiality, accurate data entry and documentation standards.

 Work with youth to assess their employment, education and employability goals, needs, challenges,

life skills and other employment-related goals to find/maintain work, enter or return to education,

The Wage Subsidy program helps to connect people who may require on-the-job training and work experience with employers who can offer support, supervision, and training to their new employee.
