Digital Literacy

As Canada’s job market becomes more focused on technology in 2025, digital literacy is more important than ever. Being able to use computers, software, and online tools is a key skill for nearly every job. Whether it’s understanding data, communicating online, or learning new programs, having strong digital skills will help people succeed in their careers. 

Thankfully, there are many resources available to help build these skills for success. From online courses and workshops to interactive learning platforms, there are plenty of opportunities to improve your digital abilities. By taking advantage of  some of the resources listed below, anyone can get better at using technology and be ready for the jobs of tomorrow.

Online Tools for Building Digital Skills

  • GCFGlobal.org offers free learning resources on more than 200 topics, including more than 2,300 lessons and more than 2,000 videos, completely free. 

  • DigitalLearn.org is an online hub for digital literacy support and training created by the Public Library Association. Their aim is to increase digital literacy across the nation. 

  • ABC Connect for Learningis a digital literacy program that offers free resources to those looking to improve their digital skills.  Choose from downloadable activities and workbooks, video lessons, and online courses from the ABC Skills Hub - 

  • Vancouver Is Regional Library (VIRL) - LinkedIn Learning (formerly Lynda.com) - online learning platform featuring video courses and tutorials. Offers courses with a focus on skills for business, creative industries, education, information technology, software, and web development.   • Canada Learning Code Explore introductory technical skills workshops and events designed to give you practical, hands-on learning or Level up your career with competence and confidence. Access subsidized tech training, resources, and tailored support in the Career Collective. 

  • Grow with Google - digital skills for job seekers.

  • Grow with Google Home - Free training, tools, and events to help you grow your skills, career, or business. 

  • Npower Canada  - a national employment program that provides participants with free in-demand digital and professional skills training, and connects them to new and rewarding career opportunities with some of Canada’s largest employers.
