What We Do
We answer emergency and non-emergency calls from the public who are reporting a crime and need police assistance. We quickly and accurately obtain all the information needed to assist the police in responding to the request for help.
Using state-of-the-art radio and computer technology, we dispatch our police officer to the scene. We function like an orchestra conductor responding to calls, coordinating police officers, and finding help when and where it is needed.

Qualifications & Experience
Must Haves:
• Canadian Citizenship or permanent resident status in Canada
• If applying for Courtenay Resided (been physically present) in Canada for the last 5 years. (Applicants may be considered if they have 4 years of residency.)
• You have a Canadian high school diploma or or a satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma.

The Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council’s Child & Youth Services Department is seeking a permanent, full-time Early Years Outreach Worker. This position is a key resource to support families (prenatally, postnatally and with children 0 - 18) in meeting their child’s health, developmental, social, and emotional goals; and strengthening the parent’s confidence and skills in parenting. Based out of Port Alberni, the Early Years Outreach Worker will do home visits with parents to address concerns regarding child development. Travel by vehicle, boat, and airplane is required for this position.
Responsibilities Include
• Conducts home visits with parents and be a resource to address concerns regarding child development issues.
• Facilitates the development and implementation of individual care plans for children that reflect the choices and priorities identified by their families.
• Assists the family in planning activities in the home and community which will encourage the growth and development of the child.
• Introduces the family to community resources and comprehensive services which will be of benefit to the child and family.
• Provides ongoing evaluation on activities.
• Works collaboratively with the community to deliver group services that promote positive child development.

Competitive salary based on qualifications and experience: salary range (under review) range: $50,000 – $68,000.

The Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council’s Teechuktl (Mental Health) Program is seeking a term, full-time Harm Reduction Outreach Worker to provide culturally based support to all Nuu-chah-nulth Region individuals, families, and communities, with an emphasis of providing support to First Nations people involved in high-risk lifestyles.
Based out of Port Alberni (travel to West Coast and Northern regions are required) this position will communicate with various service providers and coordinate activities to support wellness and healing within a culturally safe framework. This position will work evenings and weekends and provide outreach support to Nuu-chah-nulth clients away from home as well as in community.

Responsibilities Include

• Establish relationships with persons at risk and provide outreach services directly to them as needed.
• Provide information about Drugs & Alcohol, Opioids, Harm Reduction and Services available.
• Work collaboratively with cross-sector service provider/partners in developing individualized and effective, strength-based, and culturally competent support plans.
• Have knowledge of Addiction services.
• Make referrals for urban individuals to appropriate resources.
• Provide ongoing support for treatment including follow up (i.e. reminders of appointments, transportation to pharmacies for medication).
• Develop and facilitate educational workshops and group discussions.

• Minimum Diploma required in Human Services or Addictions, plus 3-5 years of professional experience (ideally working with the at-risk population).
• Knowledge of trauma-informed service practice, complex and intergenerational trauma.
• Possessing a compassionate personality and ability to work under pressure is paramount.
• Effective organization and time management skills, computer literate in the workplace.
• Knowledge of Nuu-chah-nulth governance, culture, and traditions; or being a First Nations person will be considered an asset.

JOB SUMMARY
Are you a motivated, caring individual interested in working with an Indigenous-led non-profit organization committed to supporting Indigenous peoples experiencing homelessness? The Sanala Culturally Supportive Housing Society (SCSH Society) is in search of a dedicated, experienced Executive Director. This role requires strong leadership, vision, and the ability to build solid relationships with Indigenous peoples experiencing Homelessness. One of the overall objectives is to reduce and prevent homelessness while providing holistic wrap-around services.

ABOUT THE ROLE
Responsibilities:

1. Leadership and Strategic Direction:
o Serve as the chief executive officer, providing inspired leadership to ensure the organization’s mission is carried out.
o Collaborate with the Board of Directors to set strategic direction and internal organizational policies.
o Act as the organization’s chief spokesperson as directed by the Board.

2. Operations and Management:
o Oversee day-to-day operations, including supervising staff.
o Manage advocacy, programmatic, financial, and overall organizational operations.
o Develop creative and innovative approaches to achieve the organization’s goals.
o Proposal and grant writing to support operations and continuance of SCSH Society.
o Assisting with research, analysis, and report writing.

3. Community Engagement and Outreach:
o Engage with diverse stakeholders, including outreach across geographic, political, socioeconomic, and cultural boundaries.
o Establish cooperative relationships with community groups and organizations.
o Work closely with BC Housing on the new housing development project.
o Assist with creating relationships with the local community in Port Hardy such as the landlords, neighbours of the supportive housing site.
o Support development of program processes (i.e., assessment tool) and model, inclusive of seven streams of wraparound support – Indigenous Cultural; Housing; Food Security; Restorative Justice; Social, Emotional, Community; Personal Care and Living; Wellness and Substance Use.

4. Evaluation and Adaptation:
o Evaluate the organization’s effectiveness and make necessary changes.
o Maintain awareness of developments and trends in the field.

5. Representation and Advocacy:
o Be the SCSH Society’s leader and spokesperson on homelessness, housing, and related issues.
o Represent the organization’s programs and viewpoints to agencies, organizations, and the public.

• Preferred – Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (public/business/community planning, and/or project management).
• Required – Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat, Canva, and Social Media platforms.
• Experience working with Indigenous peoples and an awareness of the impacts of colonization.
• Preference is given to experience working at non-profits and with experience in coordinating events and community engagement.
