POSITION TITLE: CYSN FAMILY ENHANCEMENT COUNSELLOR
CLASSIFICATION: ADULT, YOUTH, AND/OR CHILD COUNSELLOR – PARAPROFFESIONAL GRID LEVEL 14
REPORTS TO: ADULT AND FAMILY TEAM LEADER

Summary
Reporting to the Team Leader, the CYSN Family Enhancement Counsellor provides support and counselling for families and caregivers with children and youth with support needs to address problematic behaviour through assessments, developing support plans and/or individual plans, and providing a range of support, training, and counselling services. The program utilizes an outreach, community-based, family-centered service delivery to support families to reduce and replace problematic behaviours and improve functioning in the home, school, social and community settings.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
• Gathers information relevant to child/youth’s problems by interviewing, observing behaviour and using a variety of inventories, checklists, and questionnaires. Conducts structured analyses of the information to provide an assessment of child/youth’s problems.
• Develop and implement individualized support plans that support improved functioning per the child/youth and family’s needs in the areas of health, safety, education, emotional, social, leisure, interpersonal relationships and other child/youth or family-specific needs.
• Evaluate, in conjunction with the family and MCFD CYSN Social Worker, the effectiveness of the plans and the child/youth’s progress toward targets. Assesses the results of the plans and adjusts as necessary.
• Develops and provides educational training programs for families/caregivers and others in the form of workshops and ongoing educational support.
• Provides liaison with other resources and professionals regarding coordinating services to clients and provides appropriate referrals to other community service providers, resources and professionals as required.
• Maintains accurate reports and records on clients and provides monthly reports. Ensures all required documentation is complete. Participates in case planning meetings.
• Attends team meetings, agency meetings and inter-agency meetings in the community, as required.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Additional Information
This position requires home visits and travel and is expected to “juggle” a heavy caseload. The CYSN Family Enhancement Counsellor is expected to cope with the pressures of dealing with families in crisis. Work will not always be done within normal office hours, depending on the needs of the family. A valid B.C. driver’s license and vehicle are required to carry out the duties of this position.

• Demonstrated working knowledge of special needs diagnosis, including autism spectrum, FASD, and complex developmental behavioural conditions
• Good organization, time, and general management skills

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field
