The Role: Are you an experienced West Coast driver who knows how to tame steep mountain grades with 100+ ton payloads? Holbrook Dyson Logging Ltd. (HDL) is seeking a skilled Off-Highway Log Truck Driver to join our North Island forestry operations based out of Woss, BC. In this role, you will operate heavy-duty off-highway logging rigs (Hayes HDX, or equivalent heavy configurations) on forestry resource roads, navigating steep coastal terrain and managing heavy payloads through all seasonal weather conditions. If you are a professional driver who prioritizes safety, respects industrial radio protocols, and takes pride in taking care of top-tier iron, we want to hear from you. Core Responsibilities •Off-Highway Navigation: Safely haul high-tonnage log loads from mountain landings down to the dry land sort or dump, navigating narrow, single-lane, and unpaved active haul roads. •Radio Excellence: Maintain constant, clear radio communication on active resource roads; strictly adhere to posted call points (km-marker calling) and loaded vs. empty right-of-way rules. •Loading & Bunk Expertise: Oversee the loading process at the landing to ensure weight is properly balanced, bunks are aligned, and heavy wrappers/chains are securely applied before hitting the road. •Brake & Thermal Management: Master auxiliary braking systems—including engine retarders, driveline retarders, and water-spray brake cooling systems—on sustained steep down-grades. •Winter & Adverse Operations: Safely fit, inspect, and manage heavy tire chains in mud, ice, and snow conditions on active mountain blocks. •Rigorous Equipment Inspection: Conduct comprehensive daily pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections, with a primary focus on steering, air brakes, suspension, bunk pivots, and trailer hookups. •Hazard Reporting: Continuously monitor and report road hazards, soft shoulders, sloughing banks, washouts, and changing weather conditions to road maintenance crews and radio dispatch. What We Offer •Union Wages & Security: $43.16/hr starting rate under the active USW collective agreement, plus pension contributions. •Comprehensive Protection: Full health benefit package covering Medical, Dental, Vision, Extended Health, Short-Term Disability, and Life Insurance. •Family Support: Direct access to our confidential Employee & Family Assistance Program (EFAP). •Uncompromised Safety Culture: Structured orientations, clear landing/dump procedures, well-maintained equipment, and zero tolerance for unsafe work environments.
