Jobsite Location: Campbell River

Duration: 10-12 months
Position Description:
Truck drivers are responsible to the safe and effective operation of a wide variety of company vehicles. Our trucking fleet consists of tandem axle dump trucks, tractors, slinger trucks, pup trailers, quad trailers, end dump trailers and lowbed trailers.
Major Areas of Responsibility:
• Complete Daily Pre Work Inspection before operating any vehicle
• Ensure that any equipment not functioning properly is reported on Daily Pre Work Inspection
• Operate commercial vehicles on public and private roads
• Operate heavy equipment to load truck as required
• Load securement using chains, binders, slings and straps
• Grease all equipment as required
• Perform routine maintenance such as replacing lights, mud flaps, grease nipple and glad hands
• Fuel all equipment as required
• Meet with superintendent and/or foreman before each new job to discuss scope of work, traffic management plans and site hazards
• Have a thorough understanding of Stone Pacific Contracting Ltd. safety manual
• Meet with Operations Manager every morning to discuss daily activities and safety concerns

Qualifications & Experience
Necessary Skills & Knowledge:
• Ability to work with minimal supervision
• Ability to identify and avoid high risk activities
• Demonstrated ability to operate a broad range of excavators, loaders and backhoes for the purpose of loading trucks
• Ability to maintain written records
• Ability to follow directions and adapt to changing priorities
• Ability to liaise with the public and other businesses
• Familiarity with the Cowichan Valley and surrounding area
Education and Experience:
The following education or experience are required for this position:
• Minimum five years commercial driving experience
• Valid BC Driver’s License, Class 1 and a satisfactory driver’s abstract
• WHMIS Training
The following education or experience will be considered an asset:
• Occupation First Aid - Level 1 or equivalent
Physical Demands:
The physical demands for this job are as follows:
• Lifting up to 50lbs
• Shoveling aggregates from box, tires and tracks
• Sitting for extended periods of time
• Driving on rough surfaces prone to pot holes and bumps, sometimes for extended periods of time (ie: forestry roads)
• Climbing into and out of the box of dump trucks
• Climbing in and out of cabs of equipment and trucks using 3 point contact, up to 4 steps
• Work in extreme temperatures
• Laying on floor creeper/sliding under equipment for maintenance and inspections
