Details
The Indigenous 0-6 Family Support Worker provides culturally safe, family-centered support to Indigenous children from birth to six years of age and their families. Working from a trauma-informed and strengths-based approach, the Family Support Worker promotes healthy childhood development, family wellness, cultural connection, school readiness, and access to community resources. The position collaborates with families, Elders, community partners, healthcare providers, educators, and social service agencies to support the physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, and cultural well-being of Indigenous children and families. Salary: $28per hr Hours 28 hrs per week Start date: TBD
Qualifications & Experience
Education • Diploma or Certificate in Early Childhood Education, Human Services, Social Services, Child and Youth Care, Indigenous Studies, Community Support, or a related field. • An equivalent combination of education, training, lived experience, and community knowledge may be considered. Experience • Minimum two years of experience working with Indigenous children, families, and communities. • Experience supporting early childhood development and family wellness initiatives. • Knowledge of family-centered practice and strengths-based approaches. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Knowledge of Indigenous cultures, traditions, protocols, and community resources. • Knowledge of child development from birth to six years of age. • Ability to build trusting relationships with children, families, and community partners. • Strong communication, facilitation, and advocacy skills. • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team. • Strong organizational, documentation, and time-management skills. • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic record-keeping systems. Additional Requirements • Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence and reliable transportation. • Successful Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Screening. • Current First Aid/CPR certification or willingness to obtain. • Ability to travel within the service area as required.
