If you’re dependable, organized and comfortable driving between communities, Island Health welcomes you. As an Inter-Facility Porter (Driver), you will support patient care by ensuring patients, equipment, supplies and other essential items move safely and efficiently between healthcare facilities across northern Vancouver Island.
This is a casual opportunity supporting Port McNeill Hospital, Port Hardy Hospital, Port Alice Health Centre and North Island Hospital – Comox Valley. Regular travel between these sites is an ongoing requirement of the role.

What You’ll Do
Reporting to the Logistics Manager or designate and using a computerized dispatch system, you will transport patients and their belongings within hospitals and between healthcare facilities. You will work closely with patient care staff and administer first aid when required.
You will also support the safe and timely distribution of essential hospital items, including laboratory specimens, blood and blood products, patient charts, pharmaceuticals, and medical and surgical supplies.
Your responsibilities will include:
-Transporting equipment such as beds, commodes, walkers, lift equipment and medical gas cylinders.
-Completing deliveries and returns of medical rolling stock to and from equipment depots.
-Cleaning equipment maintained by site equipment depots and submitting work orders when repairs are needed.
-Maintaining accurate records related to distribution and transportation duties.
-Performing general clerical duties as required.
-Maintaining a clean, safe and organized work area.

Qualifications & Experience
What You’ll Need to Apply:
-Grade 10.
-One year of recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
-Valid B.C. Class 4 Driver’s Licence (Restricted).
