Details
The Boom Man is responsible for safely and efficiently performing log booming, sorting, moving, securing, and handling operations using sidewinder and/or dozer boom boats. The position requires the employee to work both independently and as part of a marine crew while operating in and around log booms, booming grounds, shorelines, towing equipment, and other marine traffic. The Boom Man is expected to operate equipment in accordance with company procedures, the company’s Safety Management System (SMS), applicable regulatory requirements, and the direction of the designated supervisor. Safety is the primary responsibility of the position. The Boom Man must recognize changing conditions, identify hazards, communicate effectively with the crew, and stop work when conditions are unsafe.
Qualifications & Experience
Required • Ability to safely work around vessels, logs, machinery, lines, and marine equipment. • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and marine conditions. • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. • Ability to communicate effectively with vessel crew. • Ability to recognize and respond to workplace hazards. • Ability to work as part of a marine operations team. • Willingness to work variable schedules, including weekends and extended shifts when operationally required. • Commitment to company safety policies and procedures. Preferred • Previous experience in log booming, log towing, forestry, marine operations, or related work. • Experience operating a sidewinder or dozer boom boat. • Experience operating winches, hydraulic equipment, or deck machinery. • Marine safety training or experience working under a vessel SMS. • Experience working around log booms and floating timber. • Relevant marine certification or qualifications appropriate to the vessel and duties assigned.
