We Value: •Bringing Métis people together in community. •Lifting up Métis people through service for all. •Providing enhanced care to those with the greatest need. •Enhancing the cultural knowledge of the Métis community. •Fostering good relations with the community at large. •Ensuring equity and inclusivity for all Métis people, regardless of their gender identity, expression, sexual diversity, ability, or socioeconomic background. •Cultivating a Métis community where every member thrives as part of a proud nation JOB OVERVIEW North Island Métis is seeking a Métis Education & Early Years Engagement Coordinator to strengthen Métis representation, relationships, and educational opportunities across Northern Vancouver Island. This position will represent North Island Métis at education and early years tables, engage with Métis families and community members, build relationships with education partners, and help ensure Métis perspectives, priorities, and experiences are reflected in regional decision making. The position will also support and develop educational activities, presentations, and opportunities that strengthen understanding of Métis people, culture, and community within schools and other educational settings. The successful candidate will be comfortable building relationships, participating in meetings, working with children and adults, developing and delivering educational activities, and representing North Island Métis professionally and respectfully. This position is 25-30 hours per week and starts at $34/hour, with the wage reflecting the candidate’s education and relevant experience. RESPONSIBILITIES •Represent North Island Métis at Indigenous Education Council meetings for School Districts 72, 84 and 85. •Represent North Island Métis at the North Island College Indigenous Education Council. •Participate in regional early years tables, meetings, and engagement opportunities throughout Northern Vancouver Island. •Build and maintain strong working relationships with school districts, North Island College, early years organizations, and other education and community partners. •Engage with Métis children, families, and community members to better understand their experiences, priorities, needs, and concerns. •Bring Métis perspectives, priorities, and community knowledge forward within education and early years discussions and decision making •Help ensure North Island Métis is included as a community partner in discussions and decisions that affect Métis children and families. •Support stronger awareness and understanding of North Island Métis among education and early years partners throughout the region. •Develop and deliver Métis educational presentations and activities for schools and other educational settings. •Support the development of educational resources and learning opportunities related to Métis culture, history, and contemporary community. •Work with education partners to identify opportunities for Métis learning, participation, and engagement. •Support educational and early years activities and initiatives offered by North Island Métis. •Share relevant information, opportunities, and developments from education and early years partners with North Island Métis staff, leadership, and community. •Identify emerging issues, gaps, and opportunities affecting Métis children and families within early years and education systems. •Coordinate follow-up arising from meetings, engagement, and partnerships. •Maintain appropriate records of meetings, engagement activities, educational activities, issues, commitments, and follow-up. •Work collaboratively with North Island Métis staff to support consistent communication and coordination across education and early years work. •Other related duties within the scope of the position. ADDITIONAL NOTES •Candidates must be willing to work flexible hours, occasional evening / weekend work. •This is an in-person position based in Campbell River and is not eligible for remote work. •Regular travel throughout the North Island Métis region is required. •Must have a valid BC driver’s license and access to reliable transportation. •Must provide a current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check. •Must provide a current Criminal Record Check. •Pursuant to section 41 of the BC Human Rights Code, preference will be given to applicants who are Métis or other Indigenous.
Qualifications & Experience
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE We recognize that relevant knowledge and experience can be gained in many different ways. Applicants may bring a combination of education, employment, community involvement, and lived experience. The successful candidate will ideally have: •A bachelor's degree in education, early childhood education, Indigenous studies, social sciences, community development, another related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. •Experience working in education, early years, community engagement, Indigenous organizations, or a related area. •Experience developing or delivering educational presentations, learning activities, or community programming. •Strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills. •Confidence participating in meetings and representing NIMA with external partners. •Strong verbal and written communication skills. •Ability to work effectively with children, families, educators, community members, and organizational partners. •Ability to listen to community members and communicate their perspectives accurately and respectfully. •Understanding of Métis culture, community, or a willingness to learn. •Understanding of education and/or early childhood systems in BC is an asset. •Ability to work independently while remaining connected to a larger team. •Strong organization, follow-up, and record-keeping skills.
