We are hiring for these positions on a project basis which is expected ; however, we do have ongoing work all up and down the island for the right people who are able and interested in working outside of Campbell River once the job is over. Position Overview The Labourer provides general field support across all operations and performs a wide range of physical work required to keep projects safe, organized, and productive. This role supports crews, trades, operators, drivers, and supervision by assisting with site preparation, material handling, cleanup, installation support, plant and yard support, snow and ice control, and general labour tasks. Labourers are expected to work safely, follow direction, contribute positively to the crew, and support daily operational and project execution requirements in a variety of environments. Key Roles and Responsibilities General Site Support • Perform material handling, site preparation, cleanup, and general labour duties as assigned. • Assist crews, tradespeople, operators, drivers, and supervision with project- and operations-related tasks. • Support excavation, utility work, concrete work, carpentry support, traffic control, aggregate support, yard organization, and miscellaneous field activities where trained and assigned. • Help keep work areas organized and production moving. Aggregate, Yard, and Seasonal Support • Assist with cleanup, shovelling, spillage removal, housekeeping, stockpile area support, and general labour tasks around aggregate or yard operations where assigned. • Perform seasonal snow and ice control support including shovelling, scraping, salting, sanding, clearing walkways, entrances, and tight-access areas that cannot be serviced effectively by equipment. • Assist with barriers, signage, site setup, and support tasks related to winter operations, yard work, or operational service requirements. • Help maintain safe pedestrian and vehicle access in work and service areas. Worksite Readiness and Housekeeping • Maintain clean and safe work areas, access routes, storage areas, walkways, and support zones. • Set up and remove barriers, signage, tools, materials, and site support items as directed. • Assist with loading, unloading, and movement of materials, supplies, or equipment. • Help protect completed work and maintain site order. Safety and Compliance • Follow company safety procedures, site-specific rules, and supervisory direction. • Use PPE properly and participate in hazard assessments and pre-task planning. • Report hazards, utility concerns, incidents, and unsafe conditions immediately. • Perform only work that is authorized, trained, and safe to do. Working Conditions • Field service-based role in varying weather and changing operational environments. • May involve active construction sites, aggregate operations, snow and ice conditions, and physically demanding work including lifting, carrying, shovelling, bending, walking, and repetitive movement. • PPE required. Career Path This role may progress into skilled trade apprenticeship, equipment operation, pipelayer, crusher or aggregate support roles, traffic control, lead hand, snow operations equipment roles, or other field and operational positions based on performance, training, and company needs.
Qualifications & Experience
Qualifications and Skills • Construction, labour, yard, industrial, or seasonal operations experience is an asset. • Ability to work safely in a physically demanding environment and in varying weather and site conditions. • Good attitude, reliability, and ability to work with others. • Willingness to perform a variety of tasks and support changing operational needs. • Valid driver’s licence is an asset. Required Certifications • WHMIS. • Silica Awareness. • Other project-specific safety training as required (confined space, asbestos, rigging, etc.).
