The North Island Crisis and Counselling Centre is looking for caring, responsible individuals interested in working part time with adults in a supported, residential recovery setting. The New Beginnings program, commonly referred to as the Green House, is an 11-bed residential facility in Port Hardy supporting adults who are voluntarily working on mental health and substance use recovery. This is a permanent position working the evening weekend shift Saturday and Sunday from 3:00pm to 11:00pm, you will join an already established supportive and skilled team.
The main responsibilities include providing a supportive home-like environment for adults experiencing mental health and substance use concerns by providing day to day support, meals and keeping a tidy and organized facility in a supportive and respectful environment. This is a voluntary sober facility.
The facility is operated 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This posting is for the Saturday and Sunday evening shift only (3pm to 11pm) Working stat holidays will be required. A generous benefit package is offered for this position.
Qualifications & Experience
Preferred qualifications:
•Preference may be given to applicants who have a Community Support Worker or Human Services Certificate. Equivalent education and/or experience will be considered.
•Must be at least 19 years of age; Grade 12 graduation.
•Valid Food Safe certificate, Crisis Prevention training and First Aid will be required for this position. This training can be provided for the right candidate.
•Strong communication skills and basic knowledge of trauma, substance use and mental health issues preferred. Ability to work independently and in a work-alone situation while being part of a team is essential.
•Must be extremely reliable and able to model a healthy lifestyle.
•Cooking the evening meal is required on this shift for the residents of the program.
•Shadowing and on the job-training will be provided for the right candidate.
A clear criminal record search (vulnerable sector) is a requirement for this position.
