BCTKB raises goats and makes biochar for wildfire risk reduction. Our goat herders are expected to use dogs, UAV's, electric fencing and corral panels to create production zones where goats eat invasive weeds like scotch broom and girdle deciduous saplings. Once we clear the area with goats we collect the remaining forest residue and make charcoal/biochar in a special kiln. This biochar is later processed and packaged at our facility in Black Creek. Physical fitness is an asset as goat herding requires hiking in rugged terrain and periods of manual labour moving fences and corral panels into position.
