Job Overview: We’re hiring for a part-time position working split shifts (7–9 AM and 2–5:30 PM) in our licensed school-age childcare program. Our program has been operating for over 15 years and is well-established within the community. We are a fully licensed, privately run childcare program located on school grounds (not affiliated with the school district). You’ll be responsible for a group of 12–15 school-aged children, creating a safe, engaging, and positive environment before and after school. Responsibilities •Supervise and care for a group of 12–15 children •Plan and lead age-appropriate activities (games, crafts, outdoor play) •Ensure a safe, structured, and positive environment •Communicate with parents regarding day-to-day updates or concerns •Document incidents and important information as required •Represent the program professionally at all times when interacting with school staff, parents, and the public (including on school grounds, parks, and during outings) •Maintain cleanliness and organization of the space •Follow all licensing and safety requirements Schedule •Monday–Friday •7:00–9:00 AM and 2:00–5:30 PM (split shift) •5-hour break mid-day (9 AM–2 PM) •Morning shifts are part of the role, with some flexibility available depending on availability and team scheduling •Staff are scheduled for consistent hours and are not sent home early due to low attendance •Optional flexibility in start/end times may be available depending on staffing and program needs •Full-day hours available on non-school days and school breaks Wages: •ECE: $22/hour + $6/hour government wage enhancement •ECEA / EA: $20/hour •Responsible Adult: $19/hour •Wages are negotiable based on experience, qualifications, and overall fit Perks & Benefits •4% vacation pay on every cheque •Paid statutory holidays (eligibility requirements apply) After 90 days: •Two full weeks off at Christmas (10 paid days + weekends) •6 paid days off in summer (10 consecutive days off with weekends) •5 paid sick days per year •Paid school closure days (weather, snow, etc.) •Paid professional development opportunities (workshops covered; select opportunities may be eligible for paid hours during program closures) •Kidscove staff clothing provided (hoodies, shirts, etc.) •Supportive team culture with occasional staff appreciation (meals, small gifts, etc.) About the Role: This can be a really fun and rewarding role for someone who brings a positive mindset, enjoys being creative, and genuinely likes being around children. Our program is outdoor-focused and active, with time spent outside daily in all seasons. This position is not ideal for someone looking for short-term or temporary work. Location Requirement: Candidates must already reside in Campbell River to be considered.
Qualifications & Experience
•Experience working with children (childcare, camps, school settings, volunteering, babysitting, etc.) preferred •ECE, ECEA, EA, Responsible Adult, or currently enrolled in an ECE program •Responsible Adult certification, or willingness to obtain (20-hour course; we can guide you through the process) •Familiarity with licensed childcare settings is an asset, but training and support will be provided •Valid First Aid/CPR and Criminal Record Check •Highly reliable and punctual – consistent attendance is essential in this role •Positive, upbeat attitude and genuinely enjoys being around children •Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions (rain, cold, wind, etc.) •Able to stay active throughout the shift (walking, supervising, participating in activities, field trips, etc.) •Strong ability to multitask, stay organized, and use good judgment in a fast-paced environment •Able to take initiative and stay engaged without constant direction •Strong communication skills with both children and adults •Professional and respectful in all interactions with staff, parents, school personnel, and the public •Maintains a positive, solution-focused attitude and communicates concerns appropriately (not through venting or gossip) •Ability to work independently and as part of a team
