Details
This part-time permanent position provides direct, immediate and confidential support to victims and survivors of crime and trauma working closely with local RCMP. Support may include crisis intervention, emotional or support on scene or following a crime or incident. This position is for 17.5 hours per week. Duties will include providing immediate crisis support, intervention and follow up to victims, families and witnesses of crime and trauma alongside RCMP at scene, in hospital, in community or by phone. You will keep victims informed about case and court updates and connect them with appropriate community services. Using a trauma informed approach, you will explain court procedures, assist with Victim Impact Statements, Crime Victim Assistance applications, safety planning, and accompanying victims to court acting as a liaison between the victim, police and Crown Counsel. Duties may also include community education and presentations related to crime prevention or trauma. A valid driver’s license and own reliable vehicle is required for this role. Although this position will be primarily based at the Port McNeill RCMP detachment, travel will be required throughout the North Island.
Qualifications & Experience
Required Qualifications: Post-Secondary education in the field of social services, psychology, social work or a related field combined with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in crisis intervention and working knowledge of the criminal justice and court system is preferred. A combination of education and experience will be considered. Ability to obtain and maintain a clear criminal record search and RCMP enhanced security clearance is a requirement. Skills/Knowledge: •Well developed understanding of trauma informed care •Ability to work in challenging, high stress crisis situations that may include on-scene support •Willingness to work cooperatively with RCMP and other community support providers •Ability to be flexible to respond after hours as needed •Exceptional communication skills with RCMP, Crown Counsel, community service providers and clients •Ability to practice cultural safety while supporting Indigenous people and/or newcomers to Canada •Outstanding organization and well-developed communication skills •Ability to work with the highest degree of confidentiality, professionalism and self-regulation
