The City of Campbell River is searching for an experienced Parks Specialist I to join our Parks Team in this auxiliary 4-Month Term position of 40 hours per week. Naturally, Campbell River – Located on Vancouver Island, the City of Campbell River offers a rare combination of a welcoming small-town feel with large-city amenities. We are a 45-minute drive from the winter and summer activities of Mount Washington, and just minutes from more than 100 km of all levels of mountain biking and hiking trails, plus easy access to the ocean, rivers and lakes for sports fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding and whale watching. The role: Reporting to the Parks Manager and working directly under the supervision of the Green Space Coordinator or Parks Supervisor, the Parks Specialist I performs a variety of tasks assigned in the day-to-day preparation and maintenance of sports fields, parks, McIvor Lake, cemetery, green spaces, and outdoor washrooms throughout the City of Campbell River. What we offer: The rate of pay for this CUPE bargaining unit position is $34.34 per hour plus 12% in lieu of benefits (equivalent to $38.46 per hour), based on a 40-hour work week. Hours of work: The hours of work will be four (4) ten (10) hour shifts per week, between the hours of 5:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m., with a lunch break of thirty (30) minutes, followed by three (3) consecutive days off Questions about this position? Qualifications & Experience
Our ideal candidate will have: • Grade 12 or equivalent. • Building Services Worker (BSW) 1 Certification. • Occupational First Aid Level I. • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 driver’s licence, and produce and maintain a clean driver’s abstract, as per City policy. • Minimum one (1) year relevant experience as a labourer in a municipal or related setting. • Experience working around heavy construction equipment such as excavators, backhoes, loaders, dump trucks, etc.
