Sasamans Society is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Indigenous Outreach Elders Navigator to support Indigenous Elders in Campbell River and Courtenay. This role is ideal for someone who is deeply committed to walking alongside Elders, honouring their lived experiences, and supporting their healing journeys through culturally grounded, relationship-based care.
The Indigenous Elders Navigator plays a vital role in reducing isolation, strengthening access to services, and advocating for Elders as they navigate health, social, and community systems. Working from a family-centered and Elder-led approach, this position supports dignity, respect, and holistic wellness while ensuring Elders feel heard, supported, and empowered.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Elders Navigator Program is designed to enhance service coordination, provide advocacy, and offer practical navigation support to Indigenous Elders. The role focuses on meeting Elders where they are at, supporting access to essential services, and improving accountability and continuity of care through trusted relationships and collaboration with families and service providers.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
•Plan, organize, and support healing gatherings, workshops, and training opportunities for Elders
•Provide advocacy and attend medical and professional appointments with Elders, as required
•Chaperone Elders to food banks, grocery shopping, and other essential errands, as needed
•Assess individual needs and support care planning, referrals, and follow-up
•Coordinate and collaborate with community partners and service providers to ensure effective, culturally appropriate service delivery
•Support Elders in navigating health, social, and community systems
•Travel to Courtenay once per week to provide outreach and support
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
•35 hours per week
•$28 per hour
•Extended medical and dental after successful completion of six months probationary period

Qualifications & Experience
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES AND QUALIFICATIONS:
•Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with strong planning, organization, and creative problem-solving abilities
•Demonstrated knowledge of community resources and the ability to navigate complex systems
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
•Experience working in Indigenous community services, particularly with Elders
•Valid driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle, and a satisfactory driving record
•Successful completion of a criminal record check
