Details
Working under the direction of the Clinical Coordinator (or designate), the MHSU Indigenous Access & Crisis Response Counsellor provides culturally safe, trauma-informed mental health and substance use services to Indigenous adults. This role operates within a rehabilitation, recovery, and harm-reduction framework, offering crisis response, assessment, short-term stabilization, and community-based support in partnership with Indigenous communities and multidisciplinary teams. Key Responsibilities: • Assess client needs and develop service plans collaboratively • Provide harm reduction education and crisis intervention • Coordinate referrals and community supports • Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes • Participate in quality improvement, research, and evaluation activities • Represent Island Health in Indigenous health initiatives and partnerships
Qualifications & Experience
Qualifications: • Baccalaureate degree in a health-related discipline • Post-basic education in mental health and/or substance use • Minimum 2 years’ experience working within or with Indigenous communities • Recent experience in trauma-informed care and crisis response • Indigenous ancestry required
