Tahsis Supermarket is a small business in Tahsis, BC V0P2A0. Our goal is to Provide a stable and secure location to ensure food security..
Role and Responsibilities
Located in a small hamlet on the west coast of Vancouver Island, this business is the cornerstone of the community and its continued success ensures that the residents of Tahsis and visitors have the amenities and food security they need. This is a unique role, geared towards an individual who is looking for an opportunity to wear multiple “hats”, and have dynamic work experience. This is a family owned and operated establishment, that houses:
1. Grocery store with numerous departments, including liquor.
2. Café w/dining room and dining hall
3. Gas bar
4. Apartment
The successful candidate would need to be able to not only perform the daily tasks of operating the businesses, but also planning shifts, ordering product, arranging offloading and display of product, and all other aspects of operations. You will need to be able to manage stock security to prevent theft, ensure staff are monitored, and ensure that all safety and preventative controls are followed to ensure successful business continuity. Where there may be staff shortages, you will need to ensure the business is fully operational and available to the community.
The successful candidate would need to relocate to the community of Tahsis, BC and reside on a full-time basis.

- A 3-bedroom residence is available on site, and rent may be included as part of the overall compensation package.
Additional Notes
Given the relocation requirement and the remote nature of Tahsis, there will be an extended probationary period to ensure the successful candidate is comfortable living in the Village and can see this opportunity as being long term. It is believed that the most successful long-term candidate would be one who would be able to relocate themselves along with their family and become a productive member of this unique Island community.

- Driving Licence (required)
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- High School or equivalent
- Cash handling skills
- Inventory management & stock rotation (ex. Rotating inventory/managing perishable goods)
- Completion of the Food Safe course
- Completion of the Serving it Right course
- Basic Computer skills- emailing, using a fax/scanner, cash or POS system.
- Successful completion of a criminal check
- Valid Canadian driver’s license
- Applicant must be legally able to work in Canada
Preferred Skills
The Store Manager role requires the following:
- Prior successful food service, retail, grocery management experience
- Demonstrated effective training, coaching and conflict resolution skills.
- Highly motivated with a desire to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Results oriented team player/manager.
- Ability to work flexible work schedule including days, nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call.
- Strong communication skills
- Excellent guest services skills
- Ability to drive a large commercial truck an asset
Physical Requirements
- The Store Manager role requires constant standing, bending, and reaching. Frequent lifting of up to 40-50 pounds is required.
