K’awat’si Economic Development LP is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accountant to join our team in Port Hardy, a small town located at the northern tip of Vancouver Island. Port Hardy is known for its stunning natural surroundings, rich Indigenous heritage, and opportunities for outdoor adventure.
This role is critical to maintaining the financial activities of K’awat’si Economic Development LP and its related entities. Applicants of Gwa’sala and ‘Nakwaxda’xw Nation heritage will be given special consideration. We are also committed to offering professional development opportunities for our employees.
Note: This position is on-site only and cannot be performed remotely. Candidates must be willing to relocate to Port Hardy, B.C.

Key Responsibilities:
Assist with month-end closing and support finance-related reporting to ensure timely and accurate submission for KEDC and its related companies.
Prepare accounting entries across multiple registers, journals, and logs.
Maintain detailed and regular reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts.
Produce accurate and error-free accounting reports and schedules.
Analyze financial data and provide insight and trend analysis.
Recommend improvements to accounting systems and procedures.
Provide ERP system support, seeking out efficiencies and best practices.
Post monthly, quarterly, and annual accruals.
Develop and document internal processes and accounting policies to strengthen internal controls.
Ensure compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
Participate in special projects and handle ad hoc duties as required.
Contribute to maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
Maintain a positive attitude and collaborative work ethic, supporting the accounting team.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Finance Manager.

Qualifications & Experience
Post-secondary education in accounting or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
5+ years of related experience is an asset.
Solid understanding of bookkeeping and accounting principles.
Strong communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
Ability to multitask and adapt to changing priorities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word.
Demonstrated discretion, professionalism, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
Successful completion of a criminal records check.
Experience with Xyntax accounting software is considered an asset.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
Must be able to speak clearly, listen actively, and communicate effectively via telephone.
5+ years of related experience is an asset.
