Position Summary
Working under the direction of the Aquarium Curator & Manager, and with the guidance of
Aquarists, Interpreters are responsible for the ongoing day-to-day operation of the Discovery
Passage Aquarium. This includes duties related to guest experience, sales & cashiering, and basic
animal husbandry.
The Discovery Passage Aquarium is located in Campbell River, B.C.
Terms and Conditions
35 hours/week including weekends and some evenings.
Seasonal role, running for 8.5 weeks on average, between June and early September.
Rate of pay is $19.50 per hour with 4% vacation pay.
Must be eligible for employment under the Canada Summer Jobs Program and must
work a minimum of 8 weeks.
Position is contingent on the approval of funding from Canada Summer Jobs.

High-school coursework related to biological sciences, marine biology or education.
Level 1 First Aid with CPR-C is an asset.
Skills & Experience
Candidates must be able to demonstrate:
Experience and competence in computer skills including Word, & Excel.
Knowledge of local marine biodiversity, species, life history and habitats.
Professional and friendly demeanor with demonstrated experience as a team member.
Time management and organizational skills.
Ability to be creative and flexible with problem-solving skills.
Strong language skills in English are required. A second language is an asset.
Experience in customer service, tourism, or retail sales is an asset.
Experience in animal handling and interpretation is an asset.
Basic mechanical skills are an asset.
