Position Summary
Working under the direction of the Aquarium Curator & Manager, and with the guidance of
Aquarists, Interpreters are responsible for the ongoing day-to-day operation of the Discovery
Passage Aquarium. This includes duties related to guest experience, sales & cashiering, and basic
animal husbandry.
The Discovery Passage Aquarium is located in Campbell River, B.C.
Terms and Conditions
 35 hours/week including weekends and some evenings.
 Seasonal role, running for 8.5 weeks on average, between June and early September.
 Rate of pay is $19.50 per hour with 4% vacation pay.
 Must be eligible for employment under the Canada Summer Jobs Program and must
work a minimum of 8 weeks.
 Position is contingent on the approval of funding from Canada Summer Jobs.
Qualifications & Experience
Qualifications
 High-school coursework related to biological sciences, marine biology or education.
 Level 1 First Aid with CPR-C is an asset.
Skills & Experience
Candidates must be able to demonstrate:
 Experience and competence in computer skills including Word, & Excel.
 Knowledge of local marine biodiversity, species, life history and habitats.
 Professional and friendly demeanor with demonstrated experience as a team member.
 Time management and organizational skills.
 Ability to be creative and flexible with problem-solving skills.
 Strong language skills in English are required. A second language is an asset.
 Experience in customer service, tourism, or retail sales is an asset.
 Experience in animal handling and interpretation is an asset.
 Basic mechanical skills are an asset.
