BC Timber Goats is a vegetation management and wildfire risk reduction company using targeted goat grazing to reduce fuel loads, restore ecosystems, and support community resilience. We are seeking a motivated Assistant Goat Herd Manager to support daily herd operations and seasonal vegetation management contracts. Role Overview: Under the supervision of the Goat Herd Manager, the Assistant Herd Manager is responsible for daily animal care, monitoring herd health, and assisting with field deployment of goats on wildfire risk reduction and vegetation management projects. This position offers hands-on experience in: •Regenerative land management •Wildfire fuel reduction •Livestock management •Portable fencing systems •Working dog handling •Remote field operations ________________________________________ Core Responsibilities (Year-Round) •Feeding and monitoring goats daily •Observing herd health and reporting concerns •Maintaining water and mineral systems •Assisting with kidding season and general husbandry •Handling and feeding herd dogs •Supporting general farm maintenance and manual labour ________________________________________ Growing Season Responsibilities (May–October) •Setting up and managing electric fencing and portable corrals •Herding goats between corrals and designated grazing zones •Supervising goats outside fencing when required •Training and supervising additional goat herders •Supporting on-site vegetation management operations ________________________________________ Work Environment This is an outdoor, physically active role. Field deployments may require living on site. When required, 5th wheel accommodations will be provided. Employment Pathway This position may transition into work supported through the Canada Summer Jobs program. Applicants under 30 may be prioritized under that stream; however, experienced casual or part-time candidates over 30 are welcome to apply. Qualifications & Experience
Ideal Candidate • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather • Physically capable of manual labour and walking long distances • Calm and confident around livestock • Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated • Interested in land stewardship and wildfire mitigation Experience with livestock, fencing, or working dogs is an asset but not required. Training will be provided.
