This full-time permanent position provides individual and group counselling for children and youth between the ages of 4-19 years who may be experiencing mild to moderate mental health issues, difficulties with family or peer relationships or social behavior. As an important part of our well-established and professional counselling team, the successful candidate will provide client assessment, case management and referral services for young people accessing counselling services. Drop in counselling and crisis response may also be required when necessary. This position will be primarily based in Port McNeill with some travel throughout the North Island as needed.
Duties may include developing and delivering public awareness/information sessions and educational support materials on relevant topics. The successful candidate will both maintain positive relationships with other service providers, schools and our agency team as well as work independently. It is critical that the successful candidate be able to demonstrate ethical thinking, have knowledge of trauma informed practice, and an ability to respect the diversity of our North Island community.
Qualifications & Experience
Required Qualifications:
A degree in Counselling or related field, and/or an appropriate combination of education and training is required. Should have demonstrated knowledge and understanding in the area of child and youth development and mental health as well as experience working with young people between the ages of 4 and 19 years. Preference may be given to applicants who have a minimum of two years’ experience in providing direct counselling with children and youth. Other assets for consideration may include art and play therapy experience; training in trauma informed practice; knowledge of Indigenous culture; and experience working as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
A valid driver’s license and own reliable vehicle, as well as a successful completion of a criminal record check are required.
