Q̓ ʷalayu House garden care volunteer

Are you looking forward to spring? Fresh flowers, warmer weather, longer days! Do you enjoy being outside in the fresh air? Then this position may be right for you! Help in the gardens of Q̓ ʷalayu House completing light tasks such as weeding, maintaining the garden
beds, planting, and watering.

This is also a wonderful opportunity for community or business groups to help in your community!

Children’s Health Foundation of Vancouver Island has invested in the health of Island kids for more than 95 years. Our vision is to ensure all Island families have access to the health care they need.

Q̓ ʷalayu House is a home where families from the north Island and surrounding islands can stay while their children receive health care in the region, and where pregnant individuals from remote communities can stay close to hospital as their due date approaches.

Owned and operated by Children’s Health Foundation of Vancouver Island, Q̓ ʷalayu House is located at 565 2nd Avenue on the North Island Hospital – Campbell River campus, behind Yucalta Lodge. The home has 10 bedrooms, a large kitchen, dining, living, quiet rooms, and playrooms; and a backyard where kids can feel at home.

Responsibilities
• Work with staff and other volunteers to carry out yard work such as weeding, maintenance of garden beds, and watering.
Qualifications & Experience
Skills required
• Reliable and committed.
• Able to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Some basic knowledge of gardening principles (but not a requirement)
Time commitment
• Time commitment can be as little as a one time experience or regular weekly, bi-weekly or monthly shifts
