THE OPPORTUNITY
Are you a certified trades person looking to join a “best in class” maintenance team? Western Forest Products is hiring for Heavy Duty Mechanics to join our operations located on beautiful Vancouver Island, BC.

Current Opportunities:
-Duke Point Sawmill, Nanaimo
-Ladysmith Sawmill Operations, Ladysmith
-Value Added Division, Chemainus

What We Offer:
-Unionized positions with starting wages ranging between $46.76 - $51.26/hour depending on the site, per the respective collective agreement
-Hourly premiums of $0.60 - $1.00/hour on shifts that are outside the recognized day shift

Shifts: Monday-Friday or Tuesday-Saturday

This position is considered safety sensitive, the successful candidate will be subject to a pre-employment drug test.

RESPONSIBILITIES
-Participate and follow westerns health and safety program and policies;
-Inspect, diagnose and repair mechanical & electrical on mobile fleet;
-Work with dealers/vendors on maintaining inventory on critical components of equipment;
-Perform minor welding repairs on equipment;
-Ensure equipment repair log books are up to date and accurate;
-Maintain a organized and clean shop;
-Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience
Education and Experience
-Must be fully ticketed Red Seal HD Mechanic;
-All applicants must have a valid BC driver's license and be able to provide a driver's abstract.

Skills, Knowledge and Required Competencies
-Preference will be given to those with experience in west coast sawmill equipment (forklifts, boom boats, skid steers and log Loaders);
-Highly developed machine diagnostic and repair skills are a benefit;
-Must be a self-starter and be able to work with minimal supervision;
-Excellent safety record and strong work ethic;
-Highly motivated team player with excellent time management skills;
-Creative and innovating thinking, logical problem solving, and a desire to participate in an organization committed to continuous improvement;
-Accountable and dependable.
