The Mount Waddington Family Literacy Society Food Literacy Coordinator position is an exciting and rewarding position working within North Island communities in the Mount Waddington Region to initiate and coordinate a food literacy program.

As a food literacy program coordinator, you will develop and facilitate programming that helps participants to learn and become confident in preparing nutritional, budget friendly meals using local ingredients, while strengthening related literacy skills for understanding food labels, cooking terms, budgeting and basic measures. The coordinator will create a welcoming environment that promotes dialogue, cooperation, fun and sharing amongst participants.

While program development will be completed in your home office, travel to various communities to gather materials, prepare and deliver workshops may be required. You will manage your own time schedule and must be an excellent program planner and manager. The Food Hub Coordinator reports regularly to the Executive Director.

General Job Description:
• Developing and coordinating programming
The food literacy coordinator will identify gaps and needs in communities, develop a program plan, program budget and list of deliverables. The coordinator may develop a volunteer project steering committee.

• Gathering resources
The food literacy coordinator will gather existing food literacy resources and components, and develop additional resources to fill gaps, according to the program plan.

• Creating learning modules
The food literacy coordinator will design learning modules to meet program goals and participants’ needs, including lesson plans with identified learning objectives and activities.

• Promoting equity
The food literacy coordinator will ensure that project activities and resources promote equity, diversity, inclusivity, and culturally responsive pedagogy.

• Facilitating programming
The food literacy coordinator will coordinate and facilitate nutritional literacy skills programming for program participants, which may include volunteer recruitment and training, participant recruitment and intake, assessing literacy benchmarks, tailoring programming to meet participants’ needs, set up for and wrap up after lessons.

• Providing support
The food literacy coordinator may provide ongoing support and supervision to volunteer teams.

• Fundraising and promotion
The food literacy coordinator will draft grant applications, press releases and promotional materials to support the program.

• Leadership, administration and reporting
The food literacy coordinator will provide leadership for the program, manage budgets and ledgers. gather data and prepare reports according to funding requirements.

Qualifications & Experience
• Are passionate about the literacy and learning needs of adults
• Have experience in program delivery, group facilitation and reporting
• Have strong organizational skills, are adaptable and flexible
• Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of Indigenous food culture
• Have a vehicle and valid BC driver’s license and are willing to work regionally
• Display an entrepreneurial spirit
• Demonstrate Community Development skills
• Existing relationships with local organizations is an asset
