THE OPPORTUNITY
Are you a certified trades person looking to join a “best in class” maintenance team? Western Forest Products is hiring for a Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our Ladysmith Sawmill Operation located in Ladysmith, BC.
What We Offer:
This is a PPWC unionized position with a wage rate of $45.84/hour as per the collective agreement
Hourly premiums of $0.60/hour on shifts that are outside the recognized day shift
Health & Dental Benefits provided through the union
Pension plan provided through the union
A safe work environment
Shifts: Monday-Friday or Tuesday-Saturday.
This position is considered safety sensitive, the successful candidate will be subject to a pre-employment drug test.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Participate and follow westerns health and safety program and policies;
Inspect, diagnose and repair mechanical & electrical on mobile fleet;
Work with dealers/vendors on maintaining inventory on critical components of equipment;
Perform minor welding repairs on equipment;
Ensure equipment repair log books are up to date and accurate;
Maintain a organized and clean shop;
Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
Must be fully ticketed Red Seal HD Mechanic;
All applicants must have a valid BC driver's license and be able to provide a driver's abstract.
Skills, Knowledge and Required Competencies
Preference will be given to those with experience in west coast sawmill equipment (forklifts, boom boats, skid steers and log Loaders);
Highly developed machine diagnostic and repair skills are a benefit;
Must be a self-starter and be able to work with minimal supervision;
Excellent safety record and strong work ethic;
Highly motivated team player with excellent time management skills;
Creative and innovating thinking, logical problem solving, and a desire to participate in an organization committed to continuous improvement;
Accountable and dependable.
