Western Forest Products is hiring for a Maintenance Supervisor to join our Saltair Sawmill team based in Ladysmith, BC.
What You’ll Do: The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for providing day-to-day direction of the weekend maintenance team consisting of millwrights, electricians, sawfilers, welders, and laborers. Utilizing your expertise to maintain and improve the reliability of equipment, reduce downtime and maximize efficiencies. Working closely with all departments, you will be responsible for the organization and execution of corrective and preventative maintenance activities with the overall objective to drive improved equipment reliability and reduced overall maintenance costs.
Who You Are: Our ideal candidate has 5 years of supervisory experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment preferably within a sawmill, and ideally holds a Red Seal ticket or is a Mechanical Engineer/Engineer in Training. You are a strong leader with experience supervising a team in a unionized environment, and you take pride in leading the maintenance function of an effective, productive, and safe sawmill. Growth opportunities are available to support your long-term career, and you will be exposed to reliability relevant project initiatives.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Directs unionized maintenance personnel and contractors to ensure that all equipment operates at its highest capability to meet required production schedules, quality and cost priorities;
Hire, train, coach, mentor and manage performance of hourly maintenance employees, including providing leadership in safety and environmental stewardship by demonstrating and ensuring the adherence of company safety and sustainability processes and procedures;
Support the analysis of downtime reports and other relevant metrics, identifies opportunities;
Helps develop preventative maintenance schedules and processes that are cost effective and increase the availability as well as maximize the operational life of equipment, with the key objective to lower the overall cost of ownership;
Supervise all maintenance activities and supports capital project delivery, with overall focus to improve safety and productivity and minimize downtime;
Promotes pro-active maintenance practices by performing regular reviews of equipment in the field to determine overall operating performance and scheduling appropriate preventative maintenance to minimize downtime;
Day to day balancing of planned maintenance as well as critical repairs to enable equipment productivity and minimize downtime;
Assist purchasing department in optimizing part availability in the warehouse to minimize equipment downtime while balancing economic maintenance inventory management; and,
Makes certain equipment repairs meet manufacturer’s specifications, WorkSafeBC regulations and/or Company standards.

Qualifications & Experience
Education and Experience
Minimum 5 years’ supervisory experience in a similar role;
5+ years sawmill, maintenance, and manufacturing experience is preferred; and
Red Seal Millwright, Machinist, Electrical ticket or Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering strongly preferred.
Skills, Knowledge and Required Competencies
Strong knowledge and understanding of maintenance strategies and methodologies;
Self-starter who leads with integrity while maintaining a respectful and safe working environment;
Experience dealing with a unionized workforce and collective agreements;
Experience working with a computerized maintenance management systems;
Strong interpersonal relationship and communication skills;
Highly organized and able to prioritize work; and,
Strong safety background.
