Details
Deckhand duties include tending lines and ROV (Remote Operated Vehicle) tether for ROV operations in a deep sea debris clean up effort. Assisting with launch and recovery of the ROV. Assisting with recovery of items of debris and other duties as required.
Specifics:
Deckhand duties as part of a 3 man crew on a 32ft Research vessel "Crown Royal" departing from Campbell River, BC.
We travel by boat to remote areas of the coastal Vancouver Island to conduct deep sea biological and debris recovery operations using a Remote Operated Vehicle (ROV).
Shifts are often 7-10 days with 10-12 hours/day in remote locations where accommodation is provided usually on a floating camp. Food is also provided.

Duties:

all general deckhand duties such as tending lines and ROV tether
assisting with launch and recovery of ROV
assisting with recovery of debris from the seabed
managing a clean and orderly workspace
refueling generator
loading and unloading gear, equipment, supplies and debris.
Must be physically fit and able to do physical work with long hours on your feet in the elements.

Must be a good communicator and take instruction well.

Must be compatible with others.

Drugs and alcohol are not permitted.

You will be on deck for long hours exposed to the elements so bring appropriate gear such as; raingear, hard toe boots/shoes, protection from sun, heat, wind, cold.

Living conditions; typically we stay in a float camp where we have our own bedroom but you need to provide your own bedding, towels etc. Showers also provided. We provide all the food but we are expected to help cook and clean for ourselves. Wifi is the only form of communication. We have vhf radios for emergencies.

Shifts are not regular and can be far apart however we are presently looking for a deckhand for July 30-Aug 6 departing from Campbell River. Future shifts will depend on performance and compatibility.

We are looking for a deckhand for several shifts in the fall from end of September through November with future opportunities as well.
Qualifications & Experience
Deckhand does not require specific qualifications or experience. We will train you on your duties. However, applicant must be able to perform physical duties working outside in the elements for long days. Any boating, mechanical, construction experience is an asset. First aid is also an asset.
