Rewarding career, new organization, exciting work environment

Serving BC since 1905, The Conservation Officer Service (COS) and its officers ensure public confidence through the protection and preservation of our environment and natural resources.

The BC COS has a job opening for a Conservation Officer within its Provincial Operations Branch in Merritt BC. We are seeking experienced natural resource law enforcement officers who meet our education and work experience criteria. We are looking for officers who have graduated from the Western Conservation Law Enforcement Academy (WCLEA), graduated from an equivalent natural resource law enforcement training program, or possess several years of experience as an armed natural resource law enforcement officer.

The Conservation Officer plans and conducts investigations and implements measures to address regulatory and criminal non-compliance. For example, conservation officers, or “COs”, are sworn peace officers entrusted with enforcement authority under more than 33 provincial and federal statutes combined. The work also includes delivering the Ministry of Environment’s human/wildlife conflict program, and educating the public, industry and stakeholders about environmental legislation and methods to reduce human/wildlife conflicts.
