THE OPPORTUNITY
Western Forest Products is hiring for a Timber Appraisal Data Analyst to join our team in Campbell River, BC.
What You’ll Do: As the Timber Appraisal Data Analyst, you are an integral member of our Timberlands financial process responsible for acquiring, processing and performing statistical analysis, translating complex data into strategies that support the Company to make better business decisions. You will analyze road and cutting permits, timber sale data, associated stumpage appraisal data, timber harvest data, and appraisal methodology ensuring Western delivers timely and accurate analysis, information, forecasts, submissions, and systems support in the most cost effective and efficient manner.
Who You Are: You come with 2-3 years of experience in a similar role, combined with educational background in either Forestry, Business, Mathematics or Data Science with a focus on Data Analysis and Statistics. You have strong skills in analysis, data interpretation, database management and scripting languages. You’re proficient in a variety of statistical and reporting tools, including SPSS, SQL, Python, SAP Business Objects Infoview, and Power BI. You’re a critical thinker, a problem-solver, and an individual that’s eager to learn. Forestry experience is an asset to have, and new graduates from Data Analysis programs are welcome to apply!

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain databases and appraisal method configuration in enterprise application systems;
- Analyze and report on the Company’s cutting permit (CP) stumpage adjustments impact;
- Provide CP stumpage projections;
- Acquire and validate Ministry CP stumpage determinations;
- Perform financial analysis on harvest, log sales or log purchase options;
- Perform financial impact analysis of Market Pricing System timber pricing options;
- Provide Post Harvest Appraisal Data (PHADS) reappraisal accrual values;
- Track Post Harvest Appraisal Reconciliation Model (PHARM) status and Liability.
- Lead maintenance of Appraisal Data System (Trimble CENFOR/LRM) and appraisal reporting systems;
- Provide support to Timber Appraisals Team and other Western staff on Appraisal Data System (Internal and Ministry-ECAS, GAS, HBS) use to complete appraisal forms and produce appraisal reports.
- Maintain cutting permit and road permit stumpage calculation spreadsheets;
- Provide quarterly forecasts and final stumpage rate, average timber value, indicated rates and development cost reports for the operations;
- Acquire and maintain reports and datasets from government contacts and systems (GAS, ECAS, HBS) reports and databases;
- Maintain stumpage equation parameters in the Appraisal Data System, along with diagnosing problems users encounter;
- Provide web reports and spreadsheets required for appraisal submissions under the Coast Appraisal Manual;
- Monthly maintenance of stumpage rates in the Log Information Management Systems (LIMS);
- Obtain and input PHADS into LIMS to support the PHARM Accrual Reporting process;
- Provide forecast and final stumpage accrual rates to load into JRP Forest Ops (FOPS) to support Production Forecast process;
- Receive and validate all stumpage determinations from the Ministry, distribute to submitter, indicating any discrepancies found;
- Provide stumpage fee data, financial impact analysis, and advice for timber pricing, log sales/purchases, and harvest options;
- Complete a parallel data collection, verification, and impact analysis of the timber sale data and equations used to annually update the Coast Market Pricing System in conjunction with Ministry through COFI and the joint Industry/Ministry Coast MPS Technical Subcommittee;
- Provide support and troubleshooting for submitters uploading appraisal submissions into ECAS.
