Trafigura Group has an immediate need for a qualified Mill Operations Supervisor at its Myra Falls Mine on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Myra Falls Mine is an underground mine operation located 90 km southwest
of Campbell River, BC in the picturesque surroundings of Strathcona Provincial Park. Surrounded by mountains and lakes, the trip to the mine has some of the world’s most impressive views.
This is an onsite position and camp accommodation during work schedule is provided. Bus transportation to and from Campbell River and Courtenay is provided for shift start and end. The shift schedule will be 7 days on, 7 days

We are looking for a Mill Operations Supervisor to join our Processing team. Reporting to the Mill Manager, your primary responsibility is to provide leadership to the Mill Production team in the operation, optimization, and improvement of mill processing. This position is responsible for the operation of the assigned processes, equipment/and or systems at the mill (crushing, grinding, flotation, filtration, paste, and water treatment predominantly).
Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate safe behaviour at all times
- Comply with the site’s standards and procedures in SHE (safety, health, and environment).
- Promote awareness of SHE practices.
- Demonstrate effective performance in achieving agreed SHE goals in support of the department, site and company standards.
- Reporting of all SHE incidents.
- Demonstrate leadership in SHE through personal behavioursbehaviors and conversations
- Provide clear expectations on performance in SHE and the operation through communicating objectives and KPIs in SHE set by the Mill Superintendent.
- Produce concentrate tonnages in accordance with annual plan requirements and within limits defined by available ore delivered and evaluating areas of lost production for future opportunity.
- Maintain discipline, motivation, and communication within and between teams
- Lead production team in the daily operation of the plant to achieve business plan.
- Lead teams to support site safety initiatives.
- Coordinate leave management and absenteeism for operation team in conjunction with the Mill Superintendent, crew timekeeping.
- Coordinate performance management of production teams including conducting and recording of performance and probationary reviews.
- Ability to work under limited supervision.
- Ensure that Safety is achieved through:
- ensuring that all work is conducted in a safe manner
- ensuring that all work areas are kept in a safe and suitable fashion
- Ensure that metallurgical production targets are achieved through:
- effective supervision of Process personnel on a shift by shift basis
- effective liaison with cross–shifts, metallurgical leadership and maintenance personnel
- effective planning, organizing and allocation of work on shift
- continuously improving the skills/knowledge of operators to optimize metallurgical performance
- constantly monitoring the process performance and taking corrective action when necessary
- high level of responsiveness to quickly resolving process or plant problems
- Contribute to the cost–efficiency of the department/shifts through:
- monitoring and controlling usage of stores items
- minimizing wastage
- ensuring that plant and equipment is operated efficiently and not subjected to damage and abuse
- ensuring employees being kept fully productive during shifts
Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum Grade 12 with 5 years of supervisory experience in a mineral processing operation
- Eligibility for MEM Supervisor certificate within 6 months
- Ability to work within a team environment with demonstrated leadership qualities
