Like wearing rain gear? Want to help look after our ocean resources? Archipelago is seeking hard working and reliable workers to assist our Fishery Observers with the delivery of it’s groundfish dockside monitoring program in Port Hardy, BC. Hours of work can be irregular with weekend and evening work required.

• Wage is $18/hour plus an additional 8.2% paid out on each pay cheque in leu of paid holidays ($19.31/hour equivalent). Minimum 4-hour callout on all days worked.
• Position is subject to an overtime averaging agreement, approved by Labour Canada.
• The hours and work schedules are variable as they are governed by the landing times of the fishing vessels.
• The work is primarily in Port Hardy and Port McNeil, but the ability to travel to other fish landing ports is desirable.
• Workers must provide their own rain gear and boots suitable for work at a fish offloading station.

WHAT KIND OF WORK CAN YOU EXPECT?

You will be trained to:
• Apply numbered tags to the tail fins of halibut.
• Identify species of fish.
• Count pieces of fish using a tally counter.
All this while working on land, not at sea.

Qualifications & Experience: 
You are able to:
• Stand outdoors at a fish grading table for extended periods of time in all weather conditions.
• Bend at waist to reach and slide halibut weighing up to 40 pounds.
• Work flexible schedules including short notice, irregular hours, evenings and weekends.
• Work independently while following procedures and directions.
• Bonus points: Able to identify some commercially important marine species.
• Bonus points: Valid BC Driver’s License with a reliable vehicle to get yourself to various work locations.
