Details:
The Social Development Department would like to hire a full-time Family Development Counsellor to support parents in strengthening existing parenting abilities and promote the development of new competencies to strengthen their families. This position is unique as it will focus on supporting reunification between children and parents (pre and post-reunification) and will provide family counselling and healing. Areas of focus include but are not limited to, involvement with the Ministry of Child and Family Development, incarceration, return of a family member from treatment, and other family crises.
Role and responsibilities which is included but not limited to:
• Establish relationships with Quatsino families and support families through counseling
• Use of Indigenous Harm Reduction Practices, Land-Based Healing, Story-telling, Strength-Based Practice, Circle Work, and Holistic Approaches
• Work collaboratively with local services in Mount Waddington Area
• Liaise with Quatsino Staff, Elders, and other resources in reuniting and supporting families
• Develop and facilitate educational workshops and training (i.e. child development, communication, and parenting skills)
• Collect case data, and maintain administrative records and reports
• Support wellness by coordinating family fun activities, which may include collaboration with local community resources
• Provide one on one support to family members
• Assists with Child Protection Jurisdiction to help create child welfare policies and laws; this may include meetings, seminars, community engagement sessions, etc.
Location: Quatsino; Coal Harbour, BC
Salary Range: To be discussed
Employment Term: Full-Time 35 hours a week. May require evening and weekends

Qualifications & Experience:
Education and Experience Required:
• Degree in Human Services and 3 to 5 years of professional experience (ideally with children and families)
• Conflict Resolution Certificate would be considered an asset
• Experience working for an Indigenous organization or community
• Understanding of family reunification dynamics; child development; addiction on families, individuals, and communities
• Knowledge of trauma-informed service practice, complex and inter-generational trauma
• Must have a reliable car and driver’s license
• Provide acceptable references and criminal record check
