This GIS Technician Position is a - 2 Year Contract - Remote
THE OPPORTUNITY
We have an exciting opportunity for a GIS Project Technician to join our team for a 24-month term. This position can be performed fully remote.
What You’ll Do: The GIS Project Technician will play a critical role in supporting our Trimble Land Resource Manager (LRM) implementation project.
Who You Are: Our ideal candidate is fully versed in Trimble LRM. You are great at providing succinct visualizations, maps, summaries and reports to facilitate informed decision making. We are looking for a highly motivated, dynamic and passionate individual who has strong Trimble LRM analytical skills and is eager to learn.
RESPONSIBILITIES
-Trimble LRM implementation, documentation, support to the GIS team and end users, setup and training; and producing outputs including advance queries, infotypes, map templates and reports.
-Undertake geoprocessing and editing tasks in the ESRI software suite.
-Maintain, edit, upload and report on data within Western’s Forestry Management System.
-Automate repetitive tasks using Python, Model Builder and/or SQL, where applicable.
-Produce high-quality maps and visual representations of analysis products, when required.

Qualifications & Experience:
Education and Experience
-Post-secondary degree or diploma in GIS or Natural Resorses Management from a recognized and accredited institution is preferred
-Documented training with current GIS software and programming languages
-Preference will be given to candidates with 3+ years of experience with Trimble LRM, 1 year or more ArcGIS Pro, and 3+ years of experience with ArcGIS Enterprise
-Understanding of forestry requirements and challenges
Skills, Knowledge and Required Competencies
-Strong skills in geomatics including editing, mapping, geo-processing, querying and reporting;
-Automation and programming skills using Python, Model Builder and/or SQL;
-Expertise using the ESRI software suite of tools;
-Skills in database management using SQL Server and/or Oracle;
-Understanding of forest management and land use planning, including uploading, editing and querying data from Forest Management Systems such as Trimble Resources, TFM or LRM;
-Demonstrated skills in project management.
