THE OPPORTUNITY
Western Forest Products is looking for a Roads Foreman based in Holberg, BC on Northern Vancouver Island.
What You’ll Do: The Roads Foreman is responsible for the oversight and coordination of the overall road construction and maintenance process to ensure production targets are achieved. In addition to the daily supervision of the hourly (union) employees and contractors, a significant portion of the role is ensuring sound business practices and compliance with applicable laws and regulations, resulting in improved safety and environmental performance.
Who You Are: Our ideal candidates has 5-7 years in forestry operations in increasingly responsible roles such as a Road Foreman/Supervisor or Forestry Planner. You bring strong knowledge of road building processes, are a people leader (experience managing both unionized and contractors is an asset), and you have the ability to manage the business/administrative components involved in the role.
Work Environment: This position is based at our operations in Holberg, BC. There is company housing available in Holberg and relocation assistance is available.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversight and coordination of the overall road construction and maintenance process to ensure production targets are met. This includes:
- Safe and efficient road construction plans;
- Coordination and optimization of maintenance activities;
- Ensuring Company road building and maintenance specifications are adhered to;
- Coordinate activities with other phases to maximize value recovery opportunities (i.e. landing location, handling logs);
- Responsible for ensuring that operations are conducted within the standards of the Environmental Management System; and
- Work in partnership with the General Foreman, Falling Supervisor and other Production Supervisors to ensure efficient fibre flow.
- Supervision of company hourly employees and contractors, ensuring safe work performance and the achievement of production goals;
- Support the establishment and ongoing improvement of production phase metrics;
- Review metrics and utilize these to improve efficiency;
- Control inventory (i.e. blasting products and culverts);

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- 5 - 7 years of experience in Forestry Operations in increasingly responsible roles;
- University Degree in Forestry or Business is an asset;
Skills, Knowledge and Required Competencies
- Expert knowledge of logging processes;
- Knowledge of blasting operations is considered an asset;
- Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills required
- Experience managing both unionized employees and contractors is an asset;
- Demonstrated strong analytical, problem solving, and logical thinking skills;
- Experience with the Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn new computer programs;
- Demonstrated continuous improvement mindset.
