Watershed Restoration Technician (1 position)
(37.5 hours/week, September 20 (or as soon as available) to December 15, 2021)
The Watershed Restoration Technician is responsible for assisting as members of the Watershed Restoration Crew in projects improving the health of urban watersheds in Campbell River from Stories Creek to north of the Campbell River Estuary. The Watershed Restoration Crew will work with Greenways staff, volunteers, contractors, and the Board of Directors, on projects that will restore, sustain and protect natural areas and critical habitats, particularly riparian and instream habitats, for the benefit of the Campbell River community.
Projects:
• Invasive species monitoring and removal in natural areas
• Revegetation natural areas using native plants, seeds or cuttings
• Watering and maintaining re-vegetated natural areas
• Inventory and maintenance of habitat features such as nest boxes
• Site maintenance at the Baikie Island Nature Reserve, Beaver Lodge Lands, Willow Creek Conservation Area, and other natural areas; including litter-picking, trail maintenance and improvements, and repairing infrastructure such as footbridges, fences, benches and kiosks as needed
• Assisting with Greenways’ stream habitat assessments, as well as salmon fry and salmon spawner monitoring programs
• Additional natural area improvements including fencing around environmentally sensitive areas, and large-scale clean ups of yard waste dumping sites and former homeless encampments
• Assisting to educate the public through social media content creation, distributing pamphlets, speaking with landowners, and/or hosting work parties
Other:
• Maintaining equipment inventory and reorganizing storage facilities
• Recording project progress, taking project photographs, and sharing project learning and accomplishments with the Greenways team, partners/stakeholders, and the community
• Supporting the local Streamkeepers groups and Greenways’ volunteers as needed
• Working alongside diverse groups of staff, volunteers, contractors and other stakeholders on watershed restoration projects
• Assisting with writing a monthly board report, and attending Board of Directors meetings as requested
• Carrying out other duties as required by the Watershed Restoration Assistant Coordinators and other Greenways’ staff.

Qualifications & Experience:
• Strong interest in nature and the outdoors
• Passionate about working with an environmental non-profit organization
• Able to work safely using Greenways’ Hazard Assessment plans, and adapt work practices to ongoing COVID-19 guidance from WorkSafeBC
• Ability to work from home (for office duties) preferred
• Valid Level 1 First Aid preferred
• BC Driver’s License and access to own vehicle an asset
• Some knowledge of ecology preferred
• Experience with outdoor work, carpentry, and/or trail work are an asset
