Details:
Specific duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Promote the value of lifelong learning
- Promote adult literacy programs in all communities in the service area
- Act as a community information resource and participate in the local Learning Council
- Identify community learning needs through consultation with members, partners, agencies and learners
- Plan, develop, coordinate, promote and evaluate programs, and any special events related to adult literacy
- Plan and implement advertising and marketing strategies
- Recruit, screen, train and evaluate and recognize volunteer tutors
- Recruit, interview and assess potential learners
- Provide assistance, information, referrals and coaching to learners
- Match learners to tutors
- Conduct assessments of literacy/numeracy and for English language learners
- Administer “Barriered Learner” bursaries, when available
- Develop and maintain digital files and hard-copy resources (forms etc.)
- Source, maintain and update literacy resource materials appropriate to the needs of learners
- Maintain tutor and learner records in accordance with the Board’s information management policies
- Meet the data collection and reporting requirements of the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills and Training, and Decoda Literacy for Community Adult Learning Program (CALP)
- Provide written project and financial reports to the Board at their regular meetings
- Create project proposals and meet reporting requirements for funding; seek alternate funding sources and partners for programs and projects
- Administer funding for delivery of approved programs
- Network with other literacy organizations: Libraries, community groups, agencies and stakeholders; colleagues, other learning organizations and community members
- Assist with the development of the Annual CALP Application and the completion of the Annual Report documentation
- Participate in personal and professional development opportunities
Hours, Salary, Benefits, Vacation:
- 12 hours per week
- May include evening/weekend work
- Hourly Wage: (to be negotiated)
- Work from home
Performance Appraisal Period:
- Annual review of employee and job description during anniversary month of hire date
- Qualifying Period: 6 months from hire date
Qualifications & Experience:
Mount Waddington Family Literacy Society is seeking two experienced and dynamic educators-coordinators to facilitate Literacy Society programming, for Port Hardy and Region, and for Port McNeill and Region.
These positions are expected to begin by Sept. 30th and will run annually Sept - May each year, pending funding.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Our Program Coordinator- Facilitators will have accreditation and/or experience in education or learning program facilitation. A criminal record check is mandatory. Compensation to be negotiated, based on experience and qualifications.

• Communicate effectively with all participants and colleagues
• Have working knowledge of the local school and post-secondary system
• Have the digital skills needed to manage all aspects of the program
• Have volunteer management skills or related experience
• Have experience teaching or facilitating learning programs
