The Port Hardy Chamber of Commerce operates visitor services for Port Hardy and the region. We currently have a part-time work experience opportunity for an individual who would like to gain knowledge and experience as a Visitor Services Counsellor. As a VSC you will be part of a team who play a front-line role in visitor services. Duties include providing visitor information in person, online and by phone, record keeping, community event support, and retail sales. Visitor Services Counsellors promote Port Hardy and Northern Vancouver Island and deliver a wide range of information about services available locally and regionally from accommodation providers, transport services, food & beverage, community highlights & attractions, tourism products & experiences along with up-to-date travel and safety information.
This work experience starts on August 22nd and ends on November 18th
20 hours per week, with a weekly stipend of $304
Comprehensive training will be provided. Each participant will receive Tourism Visitor Information Counsellor training with Destination BC and will be awarded a certificate upon completion. The TVIC certification is yours to keep following the work experience program.
Dress code includes branded shirt (supplied) nice jeans or pants, closed shoes (no sandals)
Weekend/evening work should be expected.
Qualifications & Experience:
This work experience opportunity is for an individual who is:
(a) qualified to receive assistance under the Employment and Assistance Act; or
(b) qualified to receive assistance under the Employment and Assistance for Persons with Disabilities Act; or
(c) qualified to receive assistance from a Treaty First Nation that is funded through the Federal Department of Crown–Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada; or
(d) qualified to receive assistance from a First Nation Administering Authority that administers an Income Assistance Program on behalf of Indigenous Services Canada.
