Details:
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Family Life Program Coordinator is part of NICSS Management Team, responsible for the implementation and oversight of the Family Life Program (a Ministry of Children and Family Development contract). This position is responsible for both the supervision of the Family Life team, as well as performing outreach services to those individuals and families referred to our program.
You will provide in home and community support services to individuals and families, who require assistance in effectively managing the challenges they are facing - this may include but is not limited to; reunification of families, stabilizing crisis situations, impacts of poverty (lack of housing and food security), and navigating legal issues. We work with individuals to develop a person-centered plan rooted in achievable goals. The intention is to foster a range of skill development, such as, positive parenting strategies, home management, effective communication and self-advocacy, life skills and how to build a community of support by accessing other community resources.
This position requires a strengths-based approach, and you must have the ability to apply a trauma-informed approach, meeting people where they are at. The successful applicant will work as part of a collaborative community team to support children, youth and families to establish and achieve sustainable goals, with the intent to support personal growth, and situational change.
Qualifications & Experience:
The Ideal Candidate will:
- Excel at developing trust-based and supportive relationships with team members, persons-served, extended family, community partners, and government agencies, including local Indigenous governments.
- Possess excellent assessment, interviewing, crisis intervention, and case management skills.
- Be trained in trauma informed practice, as well as cultural safety training with a strong understanding of Indigenous family systems.
- Practice a high degree of confidentiality, professionalism, ethics, boundaries, and good judgement.
- Prove to be an effective communicator (oral, written and listening) with a strong awareness of cross-cultural practices, traditions, and values.
- Be familiar with other community resources and have a working knowledge of the legal system, including court proceedings.
- Be experienced in group facilitation, outreach, conflict resolution, and person-centered planning, with a commitment to ongoing learning and professional development.
Essential Qualifications:
- Must have a strong understanding of the complex impacts of trauma, including colonization, racism, grief and loss, poverty, addiction, family violence, parent/child conflict, children with additional needs, and physical or mental illness.
- Post-secondary education and a minimum of 2 years’ experience in Human Services, Child and Youth Care or related field, with a demonstrated knowledge of Family Service and Child Welfare Acts and Regulations. Supervisory experience is preferred.
- License, clean driver’s abstract and reliable vehicle
- Approved Ministry of Justice Criminal Records Check
- Level 1 first aid w/CPR (or willing to obtain prior to start date)
