North Island College is seeking a qualified, full-time regular faculty member to instruct at both the Campbell River and Port Alberni campuses. The successful candidate is responsible for instruction in Foundation, Apprenticeship, Youth Train, and Trades Sampler, and will inform future in-community and specialized Welder and Metal Fabricator programming. Responsibilities include: curriculum development spanning exploration, foundation, apprenticeship, and trades math; advancement of Welder Harmonized curricula; advancement of Metal Fabricator curricula; development of assessments aligned with ITA standards; supporting student success and student recruitment; supporting industry engagement; and continuous program advancement and quality improvement.
The teaching faculty of North Island College are responsible for implementing the College’s vision, goals, and objectives as they relate to teaching and learning. To carry out their teaching assignments, faculty use organizational skills, inter-personal skills, and their knowledge of subject matter, pedagogy, and curricular design. In addition, they have a responsibility to serve as role models for students and colleagues.
The responsibilities and typical duties listed below constitute a generic job description for teaching faculty whose responsibility may be for the delivery of scheduled classes, the support of self-paced, on-line, and distance courses, and/or instruction and supervision in laboratories, practicums, shops, etc.
Qualifications & Experience:
- A Level Welder Certification with Red Seal Endorsement or Journey Person with Certification of Apprenticeship and Red Seal Endorsement.
- Metal Fabricator with interprovincial (Red Seal) certification and Certificate of Apprenticeship or Certificate of BC Qualification and Certificate of Apprenticeship.
- Certification in SMAW, ASME pipe pressure ticket, and related experience;
- Curriculum development experience.
- Experience teaching trades professionals, adults In transition and youth; Provincial Instructor’s Diploma, or equivalent;
- Minimum 10 years industry experience as a welder fabricator with a broad range of recent industry experience including;
— Experience setting up training programs, including curriculum development and assessments;
- Use motivating approaches to stimulate learning, including the use of instructional technologies;
