Position: Biologist
Position Term: Full-time, Year-Round
Hours: 40 hrs / week

Pacificus is currently hiring multiple biologist positions in order to respond to business growth on Vancouver Island and Coastal BC. The Biologists will provide expertise in the field of fisheries biology with the ability to conduct aquatic and marine habitat assessments, plan Environmental Monitoring activities, and supervise technicians in the field and office. The ideal candidate will have at least two years of relevant experience and be well versed in provincial and federal environmental regulations. The individual will enjoy working in a team environment and thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced company.
Biologist Job Duties
• Undertaking fish and fish habitat field assessments;
• Preparing permit applications, proposals and professional or technical reports;
• Preparing fish and fish habitat environmental impact assessments for a diverse clientele.
Pacificus is currently hiring full time fisheries technologists in order to meet business growth needs on the North Island and Coastal BC. The candidates will be interested in gaining applied biological consulting experience that is focused on aquatic and marine environmental sustainability. The Fisheries Technologist will have applied biological education and a desire to learn the consulting industry. The ideal candidate will have at some previous relevant experience, but most importantly are competent, detail-oriented, physically fit, and willing to learn alongside experienced professionals. The individual will enjoy working in a team environment and thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced company.
Fisheries Technologist Job Duties
• Collecting field data, compiling field notes and photographs;
• Working on various field projects including, but not limited to: stream classification, habitat assessments, fish sampling, marine assessments, and environmental monitoring;
• Assisting Senior staff with technical report preparation.
Qualifications & Experience:
Qualifications
• University degree (BSc.) in Fisheries, Biology, Natural Resource Management, or related discipline;
• Minimum of two years of relevant work experience;
• Excellent technical report preparation, writing and communication skills;
• Physically fit as well as a willingness to work outdoors, including field stays in remote camp settings;
• Experience in the consulting industry with extensive working knowledge of current provincial and federal regulatory requirements;
• Previous experience in stream classification, road crossing assessments, environmental monitoring, and habitat evaluations in and around fish habitat;
Assets
• Registered and in good standing as a biological professional (RPBio, RBTech, BIT) with the College of Applied Biology of B.C.;
• Transport Canada’s Small Vessel Operator Proficiency certification (SVOP);
• WorkSafe BC certified occupational SCUBA diver;
• Backpack electro-fishing certification.

• Technical Diploma or University degree in applied biology or related field;
• Previous field experience in coastal B.C.;
• Strong organizational and communication skills;
• Physically fit and willing to travel to and work in remote areas;
• The ability to collect detailed and thorough field notes and manage field data;
• Previous experience conducting stream classifications and providing environmental monitoring services to industry;
• Must be able to work independently or in a team environment;
• Strong computer skills;
Assets
• Valid backpack electrofishing certificate;
• Transport Canada’s Small Vessel Operator Proficiency certification (SVOP);
