Natural Resource Officer – Inspector
$59,802.68 - $68,060.72 annually plus $32.89 bi-weekly isolation allowance for the Smithers location and $35.88 bi-weekly isolation allowance for the Burns Lake location

The Compliance and Enforcement Branch (CEB) has several vacancies for a Natural Resource Officer (NRO). The work of an NRO is primarily field-oriented (including "off-hours" shifts) combined with office duties. Working in a collaborative team environment, the Natural Resource Officer is responsible for conducting inspections and investigations on the land base.
NROs protect British Columbian’s land base by inspecting and investigating a wide variety of natural resource legislation including forests, wildfire, lands, water and cultural heritage resources. Our mandate offers diversity and opportunity to work within many areas of the natural resource sector.
A thorough and analytical thinker, you assess compliance with provincial statutes and regulations, drawing conclusions and recommending appropriate corrective action such as compliance notices, warnings, violation tickets, court prosecutions or administrative hearings.
As a Natural Resource Officer, you will be expected to work on projects provincially and participate in working groups. You will be designated a Special Provincial Constable with associated authorities in place to assist in complex investigative and legal needs.
Natural Resource Officers will also be expected to work weekends, off hour or non-standard shifts and must be willing and able to travel frequently throughout the province.
Qualifications & Experience:
Qualifications for this role include:
• Applied degree or diploma in a program of natural resource law enforcement. OR;
• University degree or technical diploma in natural resource management/environmental science. OR;
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Preference may be given to individuals with professional designation in a natural resource discipline (e.g. RFT, RPBio, or equivalent).
