Cermaq Canada is looking for a License & Development Officer to join our Environment & Sustainable Development team to ensure regulatory compliance is maintained with licensing and permits and third-party certifications.
You would report to the Sustainable Development & Environmental Manager. Your position’s primary responsibilities will be to manage federal and provincial approvals necessary for the day-to-day operations of our facilities and oversee regulatory reporting.
Qualifications & Experience:
Primary Job Duties:
• Maintain day to day licenses and permits such as tenure renewals, legal notices, receiving and tracking incoming licenses and permits, and forwarding to relevant Cermaq facilities
• Compile applications for new licenses and amendments that are professionally and thoroughly prepared at a high quality in order to meet or exceed all government standards
• Compile data for submission to regulatory bodies as they pertain to conditions of license
• Maintain strong working relationships with regulatory agencies and policy makers and collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders, consultants, contractors and field research
• Deliver a proactive level of service that builds trust to meet internal and external party needs with an attention to detail, quality of information, confidentiality and timelines met
• Prepare supporting information and participate in certification audits
• Provide updates on regulatory changes and summarize third party assessments into internal reports
• Assist in the application for government funding for new technology development and research
Application Requirements:
• A degree in biological or environmental sciences or related science
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in aquaculture, preferred
• Experience in project management with a high level of verbal communications and writing skills
• Possesses good judgement and attention to detail
• Ability to work well with others and build relationships
• Proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
• Valid driver’s license required due to occasional regional travel as well as the ability to travel nationally
• Ability to work in a dynamic, fast paced work environment with changing priorities and multiple deadlines

This permanent full-time position is based out of our Campbell River head office and works Monday to Friday
8:00am to 5:00pm with some flexibility required for travel and events. Company benefits are available immediately
during Covid-19 restrictions.
