Our centre is seeking applications for a full-time or part-time student through July and August with the potential for part-time work through the school year.
The Student Educator collaborates closely with all members of the team to provide nurturing care and engaging programming to children AGES 6-12. The student will be offered direct supervision and mentorship by the School Age Program Supervisor. The student will have the opportunity to establish goals and objectives in order to cater their working experience to their future career goals. These goals will be assessed on a regular basis with the School Age Supervisor and Executive Director. They will have the opportunity to gain skills in leadership, organization, communication, program development and implementation, and much more.
Qualifications & Experience:
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicant must be between the ages of 16-30
Must have been registered as a full-time student during the preceding academic year
Intending to return to school during the next academic year
Is a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Act
First Aid training an asset
Bright, energetic and flexible
Experience working with children
Excellent communication skills, strong interpersonal communication skills with children and other staff
Ability to relate to people from a wide range of background, understanding and valuing of diversity
Strong organizational skills
Ability to handle emergencies skillfully and calmly
Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word
Clear criminal record check
Openness to learn new skills related to childcare
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for the constant supervision, safety and well-being of the children in attendance
Work with collaboratively with supervisor and other team members
Maintain confidentiality regarding all information related to the children, families and personnel and fulfill obligations to respect protection of privacy
Share in the responsibility for maintaining program equipment
Lead a variety of recreational activities
Participate in meetings, leadership and team building activities as needed
Comply with all policies and procedures as outlined in the Operations and Employee manuals
Manage children’s behaviour in positive and constructive ways
Attend to the emotional and physical needs of children
Have a good understanding of the values and philosophy of the Quadra Children’s Centre
Work collaboratively with staff to create an inclusive space for all children
Participate in all cleaning and sanitation practices as outlined in the Operational manual
