The British Columbia Wildfire Service is accepting applications for Fire Crew Member positions.
Temporary (Auxiliary) Salary $1,528.58 - $1,721.72 bi-weekly/ $21.83 - $24.59 hourly
The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) is a unique program of government tasked with the responsibility of preventing and managing wildfire on the landscape. With a workforce of approximately 1,600, the program’s staff are dedicated to undertaking the BCWS mandate in delivering effective wildfire management and emergency response support to protect values, while encouraging sustainable, healthy and resilient ecosystems.
This position is responsible for maintaining the readiness of fire equipment and resources in accordance with alert preparedness levels and taking aggressive action on fires in a safe and effective manner as directed. The majority of fire crews begin work in late April or early May and work until the end of August. Some crews remain working into September, or even into October, depending on fire conditions and activity.
Qualifications & Experience:
Qualifications for this role include:
• Secondary school graduation or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Valid First Aid Ticket OFA Level 1 with Transportation endorsement*
*OR, contact information of first aid training provider for verification of enrollment to be completed before the first day of Boot Camp (end of April).
Note: First Aid Ticket numbers with expiry dates, or proof of enrollment for the First Aid Ticket requirement, will be verified at the interview stage. This certificate must be valid through the end of October 2020. See the WorkSafe BC website for acceptable first aid tickets and equivalencies in the BC workplace.
