Mowi Canada West is recruiting for a provisional Harvest Supervisor for the Harvest and Farm Support Department.
The Harvest Supervisor is responsible for assisting the Harvest Manager in ensuring that all harvesting activities meet or exceed all quality, food safety, health and safety and environmental sustainability standards and is achieved within a defined cost structure.
Reporting to the Harvest Manager, the Harvest Supervisor will liaison closely between our contract service providers and operational staff during daily harvest activities, providing functional direction to Operational staff, contract service providers and interact with suppliers and other corporate departments.
Responsibilities:
• Assists the Harvest Manager in supervising all day to day activities at the marine farm location (or locations in dual site arrangements).
• Provides supervision and support to other Operational staff, undertakes special projects and/or oversees specific
functional accountabilities as directed.
• Lead while fostering Mowi Canada West best practices, methods and SOP’s for improved safety and efficiency.
• Support’s Harvest Manager develop goals and targets while delivering results consistent with the Harvest plan, strategic objectives, and budget.
• Communicates between the Harvest Manager and Operational staff and provide regular reports to Manager regarding any problems that need to be addressed.
• Seek to continuously improve the harvesting operations and deliver solutions and solve operational problems as they arise.
• Contributes to meeting or exceeding project expectations in preserving salmon quality, fish husbandry, loading parameters, cost and general harvest operations by performing or assisting in all aspects of the harvest operations.
• Supports the development of other operational staff by providing on-the-job training and coaching staff and work with the Harvest Manager to develop a positive team-based work environment.
• Initiate and develop solutions for lowering costs and improving productivity and safety.
Qualifications & Experience:
Qualifications:
• At least 5 years harvesting experience (5 years farming experience or 3 years farming plus additional supervisory/leadership experience in another industry).
• Post-secondary aquaculture certificate or diploma preferred.
• Demonstrated skills and experience in providing leadership to a team of staff or contractors and supporting all aspects of personnel management.
• Total Quality Management approach and direction (focus on details, doing things right the first time).
• Good critical thinking abilities, decision-making abilities and sound judgment.
• Highly organized, able to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to develop effective relationships and successfully resolve conflict situations.
• Basic computer skills (e.g. Aquafarmer, SharePoint, word processing & spreadsheets).
• Ability to effectively manage change and ambiguity and capable of supporting change management processes.
• Results-orientation, and ability to foster a workplace culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
Please note that this is a provisional position that is expected to last for a 12-month period. This position requires the incumbent to have the flexibility to travel to a variety of work sites around Vancouver Island and the Central Coast and stay on site or in nearby accommodations.
