North Island College is seeking a qualified instructor for the Heavy Duty/ Commercial Transport Mechanics program at our new training facility at the Campbell River Campus. Responsibilities include teaching pre-apprentice and all levels of apprenticeship programming to provincial outcomes and standards as established for the combined HD/CT pre-apprentice and apprenticeship programs and technical training. Other responsibilities include program/curricula development and lesson planning, organization of instructional training space, tool and equipment maintenance, collaborating and liaising with regional employers.
The teaching faculty of North Island College are responsible for implementing the College's vision, goals, and objectives as they relate to teaching and learning. To carry out their teaching assignments, faculty use organizational skills, inter-personal skills, and their knowledge of subject matter, pedagogy, and curricular design. In addition, they have a responsibility to serve as role models for students and colleagues.
The responsibilities and typical duties listed below constitute a generic job description for teaching faculty whose responsibility may be for the delivery of scheduled classes, the support of self-paced, on-line, and/or instruction and supervision in laboratories, practicums, shops, etc.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Journeyperson Interprovincial Qualification (Red Seal) in Heavy Duty Mechanics, (Commercial Transport Mechanics may be considered);
- Certificate of Apprenticeship;
- Minimum of 5 years' experience as a journeyperson working in all aspects of Heavy Duty and Commercial Transport Mechanics;
- Experience instructing pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship programming at the post-secondary environment;
- Completion of the Provincial Instructors Diploma program.
