Details:
The social supports worker is responsible for the facilitation of programs for children and families with a focus on cultural development, social development and emotional development. This position will provide support to members of the family unit as a whole and encourage healthy family functioning and healthy community development.
Duties:
Develop and deliver programs that promote healthy social, emotional and cultural development
Provide access to sports and recreation for all family members that access services
Elders program delivery and workshops
Work with the team to facilitate prevention programs and other community engagement activities as needed
Plan and coordinate field trips with clients and community members
Assist with support group development and activities (increase social connectedness, sense of community, cultural connections, peer socialization
Start date : Immediate
Temporary - Pending return of incumbent
Part time 17.5 hrs per week
Qualifications & Experience:
Preferred BSW, Bachelor of Arts in Child and Youth Care
Valid First Aid Certificate
Valid Driver's License Class 5 or 4
Criminal Record Review
2 years experience in direct client work in an appropriate field
Extensive knowledge of aboriginal social/health issues, structures
Knowledge of the local aboriginal culture
Non-judgmental, respectful, open and accepting attitude to all people involved in the program
Knowledge of family support principles, child development, child abuse/neglect
Knowledge of community development perspectives, counselling techniques, trauma informed approach, strength-based approach knowledge of the concept of reconciliation and how to utilize this as a lens in developing programs
Familiarity with Microsoft Office: word, excel and publisher
Strong ability to develop service plans (with client participation) and work plans Ability to maintain confidentiality
