Hours: As required mornings/evenings, weekends, holidays and overnight awake shifts.
We are looking for on-call Residential Care Workers to join our CRADACL team! You must be an inspired, innovative, and compassionate team player. Willing to work with other support workers to provide care and advocacy for up to 4 adults with developmental disabilities in residential and community settings. There is opportunity to apply for permanent positions.
The Campbell River and District Association for Community Living is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to advocate for services and/or provide services for people with special needs, and their families, who live in the Campbell River and district.
Qualifications & Experience:
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
•Follows directions in Health Care Plans, and all Physicians’ orders regarding each resident.
•Responds to all personal care requirements regarding each resident
•Includes each resident in meal preparation and clean-up, where appropriate, and assists each resident with eating at meal and snack times
•Provides each resident with socialization and life skills training, and acts as a role model for acceptable and appropriate behavior
•Completes cleaning and laundry tasks on a daily basis maintaining all health and safety standards
•Compiles the weekly grocery list, and may be responsible for the grocery shopping, as required
•Participates in program planning, development and implementation for each resident.
•Develops individual activity plans for each resident
•Participates with all residents in all scheduled activities including swimming.
•Assumes the responsibilities of being a key worker or day programmer for an individual resident as assigned
•Follow all behavioral plans and strategies in place to deal with violent and/or aggressive behaviors.
•Fosters resident’s integration into the neighbourhood and the community at large.
•Ensures the safety of each resident in the program when lifting and transferring; and the loading and unloading of wheelchairs on and off the van(s)
•Ensures familiarity with and abides by the Community Care Assisted Living Act, Adult Care Regulations and CRADACL policies and procedures
•Performs other related duties, as required
REQUIREMENTS
•Valid Class IV Driver's License (UPON 90 DAYS OF HIRING)
•First Aid and CPR
•Medical clearance including a recent negative TB test
•Criminal Record Check as per Association policy
•Food Safe Certification
•Non Violent Crisis Intervention
QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS
•Human Services Worker Certification or certification in a relevant field.
•Three to six month prior job experience (paid or volunteer), working with people with developmental disabilities
•Previous experience working with people with dual diagnosis and challenging and/or aggressive behaviour an asset
•Ability to calmly and effectively work with challenging and aggressive behaviour
•Have an understanding and desire to work with individuals with mental disability and mental illness
•Must display enthusiasm and energy and be a contributing team member
•Basic computer skills required
•Be physically fit, willing and able to meet all physical demands of the job.
Must be able to swim on a regular basis
